Mark your calendars! We have two fabulous workshops scheduled for 2026. The Laura Heine workshop in February will feature a darling pin cushion wall hanging (image at right), and guess what – the kit includes all the fabrics! If you have ever wanted to give the Heine technique a try, this is your chance! In June, Scott Flannagan will present his amazing pattern Tuscan Vintage. Heads up, club – Scott is a highly sought after presenter, and we are so fortunate to be bringing him to our club in Castle Rock. You do not want to miss this special workshop. Contact program chairperson Deb Autrey to sign up.
The next block lotto features sweet little houses and their companion trees, designed by Material Girl Quilts. What is block lotto, you ask? It is the fun activity of making specific blocks to introduce new techniques or improve our skills. These blocks are brought to a future meeting; and for each block made, you receive a ticket for a drawing. The lucky winners take home a bundle of blocks for their own projects. Instructions included in an online tutorial. More information
We will be announcing a friendly BLOCK SWAP of disappearing four-patch blocks (in lieu of block lotto) for our June meeting. Don’t worry – we will walk you through all of the steps of making the block. Although not mandatory, it sure would be fun if we had lots of participation! Everyone who participates will turn in a set number of blocks (TBD) and will receive back the same number – but from various people in the club. Assembly of the quilt is as simple as sewing rows together, but each will have a distinct look — and YOU will have a special memory quilt with love from CRQC members to either keep or share with someone special. More to come!
For the past few years, our club has hosted a spring game night that has proven to be uproariously fun! This year will be no different. So in advance, we want to advise you to hang on to any red, white or blue 10-inch squares left over from layer cakes (you can also cut your own accurate 10-inch squares). We will start with 15 of these in rousing rounds of Left, Right, Center. Why these colors? Because it’s the 250th anniversary of our country — what better time for making patriotic quilts! (Hint: These would perfect for making June’s block to swap!)
Our Wellspring Quilt Project is featured in the winter 2025 issue of Quilter’s World along with the charity work of other clubs around the country. The name of the article is “The Gift of Giving” and begins on page 88. Here is a photo of the front of the magazine to use. You can find copies at retail outlets or online at:
