SUMMARY:Have yourself a wonky little Christmas!
DESCRIPTION:Have yourself a wonky little Christmas; may your blocks be bright! We celebrated Christmas in July with the introduction of improv Christmas tree block lotto! Using the tutorial by Amy Smart at diaryofaquilter.com/modern-christmas-tree-quilt-block/ you can make as many improv Christmas trees as your heart desires. Each one earns you an entry into our first ever block lotto\, which will be held at our October 1st meeting. If your name is drawn\, you win enough blocks for a small quilt/wall hanging (or perhaps a large one if you sew blocks for yourself as you create blocks for the lotto). If we have 40 or more entries\, we will have more than one winner. Please adhere to the color scheme listed so that we can mix and match\, and please use quilt store quality modern fabric. This is a great leaders and enders project — cut a bunch and sew a few here and there from now until October! \nWant to participate? Here are the written instructions with photos for our block lotto. Note the unfinished size of the blocks should be roughly 7.5″ X 9.5″. \nVideo instructions can be found here. Note our colors are different from the video. We are using Christmas red\, Christmas green\, lime green\, aqua\, pink and white. \nALSO IN OCTOBER: Holly jolly members of our club will present demonstrations of how to make their go-to Christmas gifts for everyone on your nice lists. Each attendee that evening will receive a folder with detailed instructions. Additionally\, each presenter will draw a name to receive their finished go-to gift.

SUMMARY:The Original Influencers
DESCRIPTION:Our very own Carolyn McCormick will share intriguing stories about “The Women Who Shaped Quilt History” at our September 3rd meeting at New Hope Presbyterian Church. One such woman was Marie D. Webster\, the author of “Quilts: Their Story and How to Make Them.”  Remarkably\, it was published in 1915! Besides a fascinating lecture\, Carolyn brings us her own trunk show of quilts\, some of which are inspired by the women she esteems. \nDuring our Show and Tell\, we get to admire all of the Douglas County Fair 2024 Quilt Show entries and winners. The important legacy rooted in such fascinating history continues right here at CRQC!

SUMMARY:Good Solid Fun in August!
DESCRIPTION:Meet your new Castle Rock Quilt Club officers at our Tuesday\, August 6\, meeting at New Hope Presbyterian Church. After officer presentations\, we will revisit a favorite activity from last year — the infamous “Snip\, Rip\, Drop and Pass.” Instead of batiks\, the program committee requests that you bring ONE YARD of any color KONA SOLID. You’ll leave with 7 colors of differing sizes to either build your own solids stash – OR – to join a 3-month challenge to create a wearable using some of your colorful haul.\nIt can be an article of clothing\, belt\, hat\, jacket\, apron\, scarf\, bag\, sewing chatelaine\, a purse or bag (yeah\, you wear it)\, something for a baby or child\, part of a costume (like your own butterfly wings?) — whatever you can think up. The challenge is not obligatory; it’s just a fun extra for those interested. In November\, we’ll have a unique “fashion” show and tell… and an amazing prize drawing\, of course!

SUMMARY:Breakout Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come master the modern log cabin block with our June speaker Kate Colleran on Saturday\, June 8th. In this workshop\, students will get basic tips on getting that good ¼” seam allowance\, chain piecing and more — all while making this modern block! Once you have your blocks made\, we will discuss block placement in the quilt. The quilt can be made to look different just by rotating the blocks! \nWorkshop cost is $35. SUMMARY:April 2024 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As active quilters\, we put a lot of hard work into our creative pursuits. So let’s kick back and have some FUN at our April 2nd Meeting. The Castle Rock Quilt Club will invite friends from two nearby quilt clubs to join us for FABRIC BINGO! Starting now\, participants may sew their 25-square fabric bingo cards (the more\, the better); and as in regular bingo\, a caller will shout out what squares to cover. Instead of letters and numbers\, however\, the caller will use colors and fabric categories. (Directions link below leads to an in-depth description.) Don’t forget to bring buttons for marking your card! \nThe program and membership committees will provide the colorful decor and the quilty Bingo prizes! You will provide the laughter and smiles with friends old and new. As the evening closes\, volunteers will collect all of the patchwork blocks (our homemade fabric bingo cards) to make quilts for a local charity. The more cards you make\, the more chances you have to win — AND the more quilts we can create! Here are the instructions for making your fabric bingo card. \n

SUMMARY:February 2024 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Let’s have a Panel Palooza! If you received a panel at the December Christmas party\, don’t put it on a shelf\, in a box or under a pile. Bring it to the February meeting\, along with a ruler and some colored pencils\, and we will play with ideas to get you started on a winning design. (If you didn’t attend\, please bring any panel from your stash.) The program committee will provide graph paper\, a slide show and some book reviews. Help us help you — if you have a book about panel quilts or a finished panel quilt you especially like\, bring it for inspiration. You’ll be entered into a drawing for a sweetheart of a prize. \nPLEASE BRING: your panel\, a ruler\, colored pencils\, any book you have featuring panel quilts (if you have one)\, any panel quilt you’ve made that you especially like (if you have one). \nNEW THIS YEAR: The panel challenge ends in July (yes\, we’re meeting in July!) so that you will be able to enter your masterpiece in the 2024 Douglas County Fair. Come get ideas and start early! \nPhoto: Carol Netwal\, winner of our 2023 panel challenge\, displays her beautiful winter forest panel quilt.
