CASTLE ROCK QUILT CLUB NEWSLETTER
AUGUST 2009

Hello my dear quilty friends!!!
The first thing I want to tell you is how much I’ve LOVED doing the newsletter!!! I know I don’t always get as much quilting news in as I’d like but just the joy and pleasure of saying “Hi” to you all each month blesses my heart! I’m hoping that I will be able to continue doing this for this new year but if someone else would like to try their hand at it…I would like nothing better than for them to have the wonderful experience that I have had doing this very enjoyable newsletter.

Well, I really enjoyed Carol Bonetti from Sew-Ciety sharing all the new and interesting things that are out there for us quilters. I thought the Smart Quilts were really great. Thank you Carol so much for the program and information!!!
I happened to noticed on the Keepsake Quilting site that they have “Borders Made Easy” and “Stipples Made Easy” with pre-printed paper that you simply cut the correct length from the 26’ foot roll, position it on the quilt using adhesive strips on the back of the paper, stitch and tear away! Sounds pretty easy to me as I’m definitely not the best machine quilter in the world. Anyway, you can find out more about it at: www.keepsakequilting.com

I admit that I LOVEEEE the time at the end of each meeting when we have “Show
and Tell.” It’s such an inspiration to see all the beautiful things that you’ve
all been working on. I know it always makes me want to go home and get
busy….THANK YOU everyone for your generous sharing each month!!!

WOW!!!
August 4th’s meeting is bringing David Taylor to our neck of the
woods and as most of you know, we will be joining with The Common Thread Quilt
Club of Parker to hear this wonderful appliqué artist and teacher speak. I have
to admit that I’m sure I won’t be there and I REALLY regret not being able to
hear him so you all will have to share with me all the great details…by the way,
is someone going to take pictures??? What a great idea so we can put them in
the September newsletter!!! Incase you missed David’s website before here it is
so that you can go and look at his beautiful and talented work:

I’m
sure you’ve all received the note from Leah about Lowell’s Ranch. I feel sad
that it will be awhile (because of my up-coming surgery) before I can get in the
habit of going out there and enjoying all the fun that they have. I did go once
and enjoyed myself very much. I think the classes being offered are so exciting
too. What a great opportunity for all of us. Sometimes in the middle of the
week I wish that there was somewhere to go and just quilt and have some good
ole’ fellowship with other quilters and now we’re blessed to have this
incredible chance to quilt, talk, eat and just enjoy being together as well as
learning some new and exciting things. Be sure and take advantage of it
everybody!!!

Addicted to Quilting
She Learned to Quilt on MONDAY.
Her stitches all were fine
She forgot to make us dinner
so we all went out to dine
She quilted miniatures on TUESDAY
she says they are a must
they really were quite lovely
But She forgot to dust
On WEDNESDAY it was a sampler.
She says stippling's fun
What Highlights What Shadows!
But The LAUNDRY wasn’t done
Nine Patches were on Thursday
Green, yellow, blue and red.
I guess she really was engrossed
she never made the Bed.
It was wall hangings on Friday.
In colors she adores
It never bothered her at all
That crumbs were on the floor
I found a maid on SATURDAY
My week is now complete
My wife can quilt the hours away
The house will still be neat
Well, now its only SUNDAY
I think I’m about to wilt
I cursed, I raved, I ranted
Cause the Maid has learned to QUILT!
“I
see in the stars in the rivers, I see in the open fields, patches of heaven and
threads of paradise.
Let me sew the earth, the day, the way of my life into a pattern that forms a quilt, to keep me warm today and always.”
