Castle Rock Quilt Club - I Spy Fabric Swap Tuesday, August 10, 2010 Barbara Walters 6085golf@q.com I'm organizing an I-Spy Fabric Swap to spread the I-Spy quilting obsession, share your wonderful fabrics, and get new fabric prints in return. What is an I-Spy quilt? The quilt is made up of fussy-cut fabrics, usually children's prints or other types of novelty fabrics with motifs that depict objects the child can “spy” when looking at the quilt. Take turns spotting something in the quilt, maybe “I spy, with my little eye, a monkey”. The first person to point out the monkey on the quilt goes next. Lots of fun to be had! Ground Rules: • Pre Wash your quality fabrics. Please, no Walmart or Jo-Ann Fabrics. • Cut 4 inch square motifs. Four 4 inch squares is a unit. Place (a unit) 4 different4 inch squares into 1/2 of a business envelope. Tape to of envelope closed. For each unit that you give you will take home someone else's unit. For example: I want to end up with 36 motifs for my quilt. Therefore, I will cut 36, 4 inch blocks to make 9 units and will go home with 9 other units. • Bring your unit(s) Tuesday, August 10. Once collected that evening, we will haveeach person draw from the remaining units to take home. Extras: • Try hard to search for unusual prints. Fabric not available at chain stores will helpavoid duplicates. • Fussy Cutting – When cutting the squares, it is important to make sure you cansee the objects clearly in each square (3.5 inch finished size). Try centering eachdesign in its square. There could be more than 1 item in the square – for instanceI have a cute fabric with fish, but I will make sure at least one fish is fully viewablewithin the square. • Check out the novelty fabric sections for fabric with objects on it, not just prints. Some suggestions could be of foods, animals, bugs, holiday motifs, sports, trucks, leaves, musical notes etc. Castle Rock Quilt Club - I Spy Fabric Swap Tuesday, August 10, 2010 Barbara Walters 6085golf@q.com
